As the name says, vent-free gas fire logs do not require the venting of a fireplace flue or vent pipe, making them easier to install. The vent-free standard is more than 99% efficient to ensure a safe and clean burn. This also means you're getting more heat for the BTUs you're burning. However, the flame of a vent-free log is typically not as active, large, or brilliant.
All vent-free products are equipped with oxygen depletion sensors that alert you if the oxygen levels in a room have fallen below safe levels. This is true for any vent-free appliance, regardless of manufacturer or price range, and should not be considered a selling point or bonus feature. Be sure to check your local regulations regarding vent-free appliances before ordering. Vent-free appliances are not approved for use in all states.
